Delicious home-cooked food of the highest standard is available to all our guests.

Home cooked food at its best

Here at North Wheddon we love to cook and are proud of our reputation. Food is very much 'River Cottage' style. If we can not grow it or raise it here on the farm you can be sure it is locally sourced and the very best of quality. From home smoked bacon to our own Aga baked breads you won't go hungry.

With our passion for traditional cooking and a desire to resurrect long lost recipes we can offer you such temptations as salamis, air dried ham, sausages all of which come, of course, from our own animals and are homemade as well.

With the addition of our very own smoker early on last year we now smoke all our own foods including bacon, chicken, cheese, hams and goose. Our personal favourite is applewood smoked goose breast, which is highly recommended.

If you would like to join in our dinner evenings please let us know before 10.00am or when checking in for the following night. We are open to non- residents, but you will need to book.

We are now licensed and offer a rather good wine list!

  • Our own air dried ham, cured for three years, with a simple sweet apple and mixed leaf salad dressed in aged balsamic vinegar and a jolly good olive oil.
  • Local roast beef, ‘rare’ with a light horseradish mayo garnished with a tomato and green salad.
  • Home smoked breast of chicken in smoked paprika dressing.
  • Garlic mushrooms from our fields finished with brandy and topped a smokey cheese melt en croute.
  • Our own oak smoked salmon – with a simple lemony mayo – wow!
Middles but leave enough for puds

Served with seasonal vegetables and pots

  • Beef Hot Pot slow cooked in English red wine and garden herbs.
  • Salmon Steak poached in a light cream and brandy sauce and finished with a splash of fresh lemon.

Great puddings
  • A stack of mini-pancakes with pan-fried bananas finished with some very good maple syrup.

  • Bramley apple pie with fresh cream custard, wow.
  • Bread and butter pudding - it just had to be here.
  • Organic ice cream and sorbet selection, outstanding taste. If you have never tried organic ice-cream this comes highly recommended

Lots of tea or coffee to finish in front of the log fire or maybe a brandy or two.
